Let's face it, as LPN students, Nutrition class isn't the greatest class we have to take but that's out of our control as the State Board of Nursing requires us to take this type of course. Honestly, as nurses, we will rarely be using any of the information in this book.This is why hospitals, nursing homes, and skilled care facilities have Registered Dietitians on staff. They take more than a single class on nutrition and they are the ones most qualified to discuss nutrition with our patients.That said, the book is VERY detailed and provides a lot of information starting from the very basic building blocks of nutrients and working its way up to complex diet regimes. If you're taking Anatomy & Physiology at the same time, some of the info in this book will mesh with what you're learning in that class so they compliment each other well.I bought this book new but now i wish I would have found a cheaper used version as my book already looks very used after just a month of it in and out of my messenger bag. Overall, a good book, but all you LPN students already know, this is NOT going to be in our job description, at least not at this specific of a level.
I rented this book for nursing school, but may just keep it for my own personal library. It is such a wealth of information and in easy to understand language.
Simple and straight forward information. Chapters contain just enough information to help the student get a basic, solid understanding of nutrition and health.
